  • Yorgos Koumendakis had already worked with Olia Lazaridou and Studio 19 to produce a recording of seven Brothers Grimm tales. It was released on CD, and when Yorgos was asked to produce a live show for it, he called upon me to direct it. That is how I met the wonderful Olia, who has been a dear friend of mine ever since. Having followed the explosive visual talent of Socratis Socratous closely, it struck me that his plastic water lilies pond installation would be the perfect landscape in which to stage this monologue. I turned Olia Lazaridou into a verbal acrobat, a kind of chattering Tinkerbell. I played around with the bright greens, pinks and purples of Socratis' work, mixing pop imagery in with the mysterious sounds of Koumendakis' string quartet music. The ending featured the surprise appearance of a blue prince. It turned out to be a very pleasant show. Olia's performance was absolutely brilliant. People loved her, and the show was very successful. This is the only work I have produced that is suitable for children.
