  • Difficult music, a difficult libretto, a real puzzle for a director. I worked hard to stage it in both a charming and imaginative way. I used the aesthetics first experimented with in Alkistis' VOLCANO (1998), and took a silent film - giant puppet theatre approach to the opera. I had the opportunity to use some images that had been haunting me for a long time, and I am really glad that I saw them come to life in this production. Alekos Yiannaros' lighting was extraordinary. Angelos Mendis' work (especially the make-up for the male performers) was astonishing. I was deeply moved by the cast's dedication to the project. It was my work on this opera that convinced Christos Lambrakis to commission my direction of LA SONNAMBULA (2000).
